Privacy

Your privacy matters before, during, and after therapy.

This page is a public summary. Formal privacy notices, consent language, and data handling details are provided through the secure booking and intake process.

Information collected

Contact, booking, billing, and consent information is collected only for providing counselling services, managing appointments, and meeting legal or professional obligations.

How information is protected

Client information is handled through secure systems designed for counselling operations. Clinical information is not exposed through public pages or magic booking links.

Limits of confidentiality

What you share is kept confidential, with a few exceptions required by law and professional ethics. Confidentiality may be broken, and information disclosed to the appropriate authority, when there is:

  • a reason to believe a child is being, or is likely to be, abused or neglected (a legal duty to report under BC's Child, Family and Community Service Act);
  • a serious risk of harm to an identifiable person (a duty to warn or protect);
  • a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself, so that emergency help can be arranged;
  • a court order or subpoena requiring disclosure of records.

Where possible, George will discuss any disclosure with you first. These limits are reviewed with you as part of consent.

How your information may be shared

Your information is used to provide counselling and run the practice. In that course it may be shared, only as needed, with:

  • clinical supervision or consultation, kept anonymized where practical;
  • the bookkeeping/accounting and practice-management software the practice relies on;
  • your family doctor or a referring provider — only with your agreement, to coordinate care.

Information is not sold, and is not shared for marketing.

Communication

Email and voicemail are useful for scheduling, but they are not the right place for detailed clinical information or urgent support needs.

Virtual (telehealth) sessions

Virtual sessions are held on Google Meet under the practice's Google Workspace account, which includes Google's data-processing commitments. Each appointment gets its own private link; you don't need a Google account, and sessions are never recorded by the practice. Video and audio are encrypted in transit and may be processed on Google infrastructure outside Canada. As with any online service, the privacy of your own space and connection is yours to arrange — a private room and a personal (not shared or workplace) device are recommended. Technology can fail mid-session; if that happens, George will call you to continue or reschedule.

Questions

Privacy questions can be raised before booking or during a session. George will explain what is collected, why it is needed, and how it is used.
